whangamata
Whangamata is situated on the east coast of the north island at the base of the Coromandel Peninsula, 30 minutes north of Waihi, 45 minutes east of Thames, 1 hour 45 minutes from Hamilton and about 2 hours from Auckland.
Whangamata is a beautiful beach side town, and was voted the best beach in New Zealand in 2018.
It is very popular in the summer months for water sports but if that is not your passion there are many other outdoor and indoor clubs or pursuits to entertain.
Normal population is about 4200 although summer, weekends and holiday periods it swells to 10,000 and special events (e.g. Beach Hop) or Christmas / New Year can see in excess of 100,000.
The retail and trade aspect caters for most needs; New World Supermarket, Bunnings and other trade stores, numerous restaurants and cafes and a great variety of fashion stores.
The health services include a medical centre, x-ray services, Pathlab, St John Lifelink with a health shuttle, dentists, physiotherapists, plunket, midwives, district nurses, Hospice, naturopaths, homeopathy, massage and beauty clinics.
Whangamata has churches of most denominations.
